Infrastructural, structural and environmental issues pose great challenges for sustainable tourism. Local governments prove inadequate to reduce the environmental pressure building up in mass tourism destinations, especially in the high season. Tourist complaints play a strategic role in solving such issues. In this context, this study aimed to identify infrastructural, structural and environmental issues based on tourist complaints and to bring insight on how local governments approach these issues and why there have no elbow room for improvement at times. Tourist complaints about visual, noise, water, air, and soil pollution arising from infrastructural, structural and environmental issues and other complaints about poor use of land were collected from sikayetvar.com website, an online complaint platform. Complaint handling process and potential solutions were explored using phone interviews with local authorities. Comparative analysis showed that a new government department needs to be established for the solution of environmental issues, and highlighted the importance of environmental planning, respect to capacity limits and regular environmental assessments in the region.
