Abstract
- The results of an analysis of geographic accessibility to the Institutions of Higher Education of the conurbation area Manizales-Villamaría is presented. Local administration seeks to strengthen its vision of University City, to transforming it as one of the most important higher studies areas in Colombia. Geostatistical analysis techniques are applied as an urban planning instrument, which allow concluding that there exists inequitable geographical accessibility. It was found that comparing the transit mode with the private mode, the first one have unfavorable operating conditions, and an additional average travel time of up to 80% must be invested in comparison with the private transport mode. The analysis shows that more than 50% of the population moves to some of the educational centers in a travel time of less than 20 minutes. This indicates that, despite the inequality, there is a moderate coverage of transportation to the higher education institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
