Abstract

This article describes and analyzes the representations of maternal figures in femininity narratives in five cases of emerging middle-class young women in Lima, Peru. To do so, in-depth interviews were conducted between 2017 and 2018, and a snowball sampling technique was used to find people who met these criteria. The article finds that, for women of this socio-economic status, maternal representation takes a particular form in the mother-daughter generational handover. Not only are femininity models transmitted, but also class aspirations. The generation of these new femininity narratives is analyzed through the concept of heretical discourse developed by Pierre Bourdieu. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
