Abstract

The conventional use of the term "globalization" has automated and dissociated it from the historical processes that explain it. German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk proposes a broader, historically revised concept of globalization, which makes it possible to understand the transformation of Western thought in relation to the changes in the modern world's cultural dynamics. Some of the philosopher's formulations can be used as reflection guides for literary studies. The article discusses the case of the concept of "saturation", through a comparative study of Almeida Garrett and Fernando Pessoa, whose works show a gradual transformation of the cultural dynamics in a globalizing world. It also addresses the possibility of taking Sloterdijk's concepts to other contexts of literary discussion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
