Abstract

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly used as an emergent or salvage modality in patients with cardiovascular or pulmonary collapse.[[1]] Percutaneous cannulation can be quickly performed with ultrasound, transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) or fluoroscopic guidance. Manta VCD is a postclosure technique, not requiring any added steps during initial ECMO cannulation.[[3]] He continued to decline and ECMO was instituted at the bedside under ultrasound and TEE guidance, with a 25F right femoral venous cannula and a 19F left common femoral arterial (CFA) cannula (Bio-Medicus, Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN).
