Abstract
- A cry for mercy by commuters and subway straphangers alike continues to reverberate across New York City amid reports that the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) may impose fare increases. The proposed increases by the MTA would mean a jump from $70 to $76 for a 30 Day unlimited ride MetroCard. Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road fares are expected to increase by about 5 percent and tolls at nine bridges and tunnels are being jacked up from twenty five to fifty cents, depending on the crossing.
