The Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced its intention of extending the NRC to the rest of India. No longer a shadow state or a parallel state, it is the state. On August 5, 2019, the Indian government unilaterally breached the fundamental conditions of the Instrument of Accession by which the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir agreed to become part of India in 1947.
