Abstract

The ceramic typologies were the basis for the chronological divisions and cultural sequences of Central West Argentina. Lagiglia was the one who established the ceramic diversity for the south of Mendoza, from ceramic archaeological fragments and vessels found in different sites of the region. In this paper, it is proposed to revise these typologies with the integration of descriptive and technological studies, compositional analysis and distribution of ceramic fragments from archaeological sites of the Atuel river basin. The results show a lower ceramic diversity than expected, with implications related to the spatial-environmental distribution and circulation of vessels, which improve new approaches to integrate those typologies established for the region.
