Abstract

This article is about an analysis of the short-story Berenice, of Edgar Allan Poe. The short-story is part of a collection of mystery and horror stories, and it's in what they call fantastic fiction. The analysis proposed is based on psychoanalysis, by viewing it as a method of knowledge by interpretation, yet without disregard elements of literary critics. There were outstanding points in the results of this study the appearance of psychoanalysis and fantastic fiction, the matter of the double, the space in the narrative, the dream, fantasies about the horrifying scene and the horror fiction as a possibility to access the uncanny and the abandonment, as well as act on the desire of transgression.
