Abstract

[Objective] Phospholipase D(PLD) is an important protein family in rice, which works essentially for growth, development and response for abiotic stresses. The present paper aimed to acquire the basic biological information of rice PLD. [Method]The bioinformatics studies of 16 PLD-family members were performed on gene structure, protein motif, spatio-temporal expression patterns and hormone-induced expression patterns. [Result]The rice PLD genes varied in the length from 2982 to 11 305 bp, and they contained different exon numbers from 3 to 21 while it remained almost the same numbers for those genes belonging to a subtype. Moreover, this family presented a high similarity on protein sequence, and exhibited same motifs except for OsPLDφ and OsPLDκ. According to the database of RiceXPron, PLD-family genes were found expressed higher in roots, stems, leaves, anthers and ovary, and lower in germ, endosperm and other parts. In addition, they behaved different response to honnones, many of which were up-regulated by jasmonic acid(JA) and abscisie acid(ABA), repressed by brassinolide(BR) and cytokinin(CTK), while insensitive to gibberellin(GA) and auxin(IAA). [Conclusion] Members contain the same type of motifs, indicating that they are functionally conserved and consistent;each member exhibits a different response pattern after different hormone treatments, suggesting that rice PLD members perform differenl functions in stress response. These findings provided a basis for further studies on biological functions of rice PLD family members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
