Abstract

The article discusses the tensions and extensions included in the guitar which the musicians label as 'jazz chords.' Topics include the most widely used fingering and voicing for this chord played across the top five strings; funk guitarist, such as Cory Wong, choose to strip their chords down to the essential notes typically two- and three-note shapes played on the higher strings; and repeating two-bar funk rhythm exercise demonstrating ways to mix and match these various partial chord types.
