Abstract

BACKGROUND: In the systematic review The prevalence of thyroid disease in patients with vitiligo of 2012 a prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease was estimated in 14.3%; 6.8% in children (5.79-12.7%) and 18.6% in adults (13.7-22.9%). OBJECTIVES: To critically analyze research papers and to identify key points to improve the methodological quality for future systematic reviews. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Critical reading based on criteria PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) and manual of Joanna Briggs Institute of Australia. RESULTS: The quality methodology of the systematic review analyzed is attached to the PRISMA principles; however, there is a deficiency in the estimation of results and there are insufficient data to evaluate the reproducibility. Prevalence recalculated with meta-analysis with random effects was 9.52 (IC95% 4.80-15.65) of autoimmune thyroid disease in children. CONCLUSIONS: A prevalence systematic review should cover at least 7 key points that are stated in the text. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
