Abstract

In this paper we analyze 14 textile activism initiatives in Bogotá, explaining how the textile activity that supports them and their material production are examples of feminist postures that are not always explicit. The initiatives were identified through a chain referral sample method, their representatives were interviewed and the information gathered was analyzed in order to give an account of the type of activism they develop, underlining their objectives and the practices they perform. For this exercise, we took as a starting point the proposal of feminist continuum developed by Anne Beth Pentney, which allowed typifying the different cases as collective construction, oriented to promote social causes or as forms of denunciation or protest. We discuss the limitations of this continuum proposal when considering: temporal and spatial aspects, material conditions of textile production or when dimensioning the pedagogical proposals of knowledge transmission that some cases define as their central objective.
