Abstract

The microstructure and mechanical properties of Zr54 Co46 alloy at different heat treatment temperatures were investigated by means of X-ray diffractometer (XRD),optical microscopy (OM),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),and universal testing machine. The results show that the phase structure o£ the Zr54 Co46 sample composes of B2 phase and the second phase Zr2 Co. The content of Zr2 Co phase decreases with the increase of heat- treatment temperature, and the volume fraction difference of Zr2Co phase is small at the heat treatment temperatures of 723 K and 773 K. At the heat treatment temperatures of 723 K and 773 K,the strength of the samples decreases, but the plastic deformation increases. The Vickers hardness of the heat-treated Zr54 Co46 alloy is smaller than that of the as-cast alloy,and the heat-treated alloy has strong work hardening ability or plastic deformation resistance. In addition, the fracture mechanism o£ as-cast specimens is mainly ductile fracture accompanied by the intergranular fracture mechanism, while the fracture mechanism of specimens at the heat treatment temperatures of 723 K and 773 K is mainly ductile fracture.
