Abstract
- The article discusses the history of the so-called "five-minute rule" in data management systems design that states that one kilobyte (KB) records referenced every five minutes should be memory resident. It looks at how the principle has impacted information storage and the use of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and hard disk drives (HDD).
