Abstract

Unlike economical reductionist versions of Marxism, Pierre Bourdieu doesn't define class basically upon the relationships with production means. He perceives them as fractions layered by economical, cultural, social and symbolic capitals. Therefore social life is a battlefield where actors endeavour to raise their capitals and reach higher fractions. Bourdieu's explanation of war upon social space can provide a new dimention for understanding war. The meaningful relationship between social life and war provided by Bourdieu gives us the opportunity to understand war from a sociological view. Additionally this theoretical and methodological infrastructure can contribute to war studies' aim to understand war. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
