Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the associated factors of cardiorespiratory fitness in high school adolescents. It was a cross-sectional study with convenience sampling in which was included 663 students from both genders with ages varying from 12 to 18 years old. YRBS and the PeNSE questionnaires were applied to identify the health risk behaviors. The 20m shuttle run test was applied to measure the cardiorespiratory fitness. Binary logistic regression was utilized to estimate the adjusted odds ratio and the confidence interval (CI 95%) with a 5% margin of error. All statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v. 22.0. As the main results, being "male" (OR=2,09; CI95%: 1,50-2,90), classified on the group of "younger" (OR=1,83; CI95%: 1,31-2,56) and the cannabis consumption (OR=0,49; CI95%: 0,23-1,01) were associated with the cardiorespiratory fitness. Thus, it was concluded that biological and behavioral variables could be associated with adolescents' cardiorespiratory fitness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
