Abstract

The toxic-shock syndrome (TSC) is an uncommon but potentially fatal complication of infection due to certain types of bacterial infections. It is a toxin mediated disease in which these toxins act as superantigens that provoke an exaggerated stimulation to the immune system causing multisystemic involvement, fever, rash, hypotension and multiple organ failure which can be fatal. Previously, this syndrome had been associated with the use of tampons but in the present days its main risk factors are skin wounds and surgeries. This entity can affect any person and the clinicians should have a high degree of suspicion to start the treatment in a timely manner and thus reduce the complications and mortality.
