Abstract

Due to the toxic effect of boron and its compounds on specified concentrations, it is necessary for boron and its compounds to be eliminated from wastewater prior to the discharging into the receiving environment. Today, it is introduced by a numerous of researchers that the removal of boron through the various physicochemical methods is applicable. In this paper, the elimination of boron from industrial wastewater by means of chemical precipitation with Ca(OH)2 as inorganic salt has been studied. Through the tests pH, boron concentration, Ca(OH)2 amount and temperature have been utilized as the parameters of the study. Ultimately, under optimum pH, by increasing the concentration, the temperature and the amount of Ca(OH)2, elimination of boron up to 98% has been achieved. It is considered that some part of the eliminated boron has been chemically precipitated as calcium borate while another part has been eliminated by the precipitation together with the ensued calcium sulphate.
