Abstract

Objective: Exploring the relationship between the amplitude of mismatch negativity(MMN) and the stimulus deviation in interaural phase differences (IPD) to find out the IPD with the greatest amplitude, and lay a theoretical foundation for improving the effect size of MMN. Methods: The average amplitude in Fz, FCz and Cz was obtained from 25 randomly selected college students and analyzed with repeated measurement analysis of variance. The stimuli was present by the rule of auditory oddball paradigm, in which the IPD of standard stimuli was 0° , and that of the deviant stimuli was 2.63° , 45° , 90° , 135° , 180° respectively. Results: There were 24 subjects left after outlier rejection. The main effect of stimuli deviation was significant (P< 0.01). The average amplitude of the IPD of 180° , 135° and 90° was significantly larger than that of 2.63° and 45° (P< 0.05) . But the difference between 2.63° and 45° was not statistically significant(P> 0.05). The difference between 180° , 135° and 90° was not statistically significant again (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The amplitude of IPD MMN mounts up with increasing stimuli deviation in the range of 0° to 90° , and then plateaus out. 180° is likely to be the optimal IPD of deviant stimulus for its greatest amplitude.
