The terms that form the title of this work are not mutually exclusive. The woman or the sexual difference are two ways to say the same. The woman in the works of Rousseau makes the difference. The woman not only is different, but she makes the difference, operates the sexual difference. In this work wo propose to show that when Rousseau undertakes to define the nature of the woman, what appears instead of the nature is an eroticism of the differentiation. We will see that sexual difference as it appears in the anthropology of Rousseau is not given by nature, but results from a game of signs imposed by shame and through which the sexual impulse becomes erotically differentiated desire.
