Abstract
- This paper approaches the interrelation between oral and written speech in Plato's dialogues from a linguistic perspective. By means of a methodological framework provided by the recent studies focused on the spoken/written variation, a twofold model is proposed to examine Platonic dialogues in the crossroads of the two communicative situations involved in them: the one between author and reader and the one inside the literary fiction. A case study based on Republic shows how the paraphrases constructed as mere appositions can be interpreted as features related to the spoken bias present in the text. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
