Abstract

esculetin, a natural coumarin, has anti-osteoclastic activity on cell line. We studied the effect of esculetin in vivo. Zebra fish larvae were raised in water containing various concentrations of esculetin. The area and intensity of ossified notochord was measured. Toxicity study of esculetin on adult zebra fish was performed. The caudal fin of zebrafish was amputated and the fishes were exposed to various concentrations of esculetin. Area of the regenerated fin was found to be measured. The intensity of mineralization of zebra fish larvae was significantly more with 10μg/mL esculetin. esculetin was safe upto 100mg/L. The area of the regenerated fin was not statistically significant amongst the different groups. esculetin showed significant increased osteogenesis in zebrafish larvae. Further investigation is needed as the study has certain innate limitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
