Abstract

In this study, the removal of reactive anthraquinone dyestuff which extensively used in textile industry, was investigated by dried mass of ureolytic mixed culture (UMC) as biosorbents and optimum adsorption conditions of dye stuff were tested. UMC was grown in a nutrient enriched medium with aerated agitation. The effects of operational parameters such as initial dye concentration, biosorbent-dosage, temperature, pH and contact time were examined on the efficiency of dye removal. The highest dye removal efficiency was found at the pH 2, initial dye concentration 150 mg /L, temperature 50 0C, and contact time 20 minute. The capacity of removal (qe), and rate of adsorption were calculated as 620 mg/g; %82,67 respectively at optimal conditions. It was observed that the experimental adsorption features of anthraquinone dyestuff by ureolytic mixed culture were well fitted with the second-order adsorption kinetics and Freundlich isotherm.
