Abstract

In the study determining and comparing of anatomical features of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivated under perlit and hydroponic culture were aimed. Malatya Kurucaova domestic variety was grown in greenhouse covered by polycarbonate in Harran University in 2016. For anatomical analyses samples of root, stem and leaf in paraffin were stained by Safranine, Fast Green and examined by light microscope. The results were photographed. Biometric measurements were made in some tissues of root, stem and leaf. According to the measurements some differences were observed between the plants grown under two cultures. Anatomically similar features were figured out in all of the plants analyzed. The roots had cortex formed by 5-6 sequenced and wavywalled parenchyma cells. 1 sequenced endodermis and pericycle were observed. The stems were formed by one sequenced epidermis, 1-2 sequenced chlorenchyma, 4-5 sequenced collenchyma and 4-5 sequenced parenchymatic tissue. Vascular bundles surrounded the stem like a ring and they were bicollateral. 1-2 layered sclerenchyma facing in the direction of epidermis on phloem and 1-2 sclerenchyma cells facing in the direction of pith under phloem were observed. Pith was parenchymatic. Stomate, glandular and epidermal hairs were observed. The leaves were bifacial and amphistomatic. Mesophyll was formed by one sequenced palisade parenchyma and 2-3 sequenced spongy parenchyma. Big vascular bundle was bicollateral. Small vascular bundles were collateral type and embedded into mesophyll. They had glandular and epidermal hairs. Crystal sand and prismatic were observed in roots, stems and leaves of both plants. As a result, in the study some anatomical features of an economical plant cultivated under different cultures by using soilless agriculture were figured out. The data obtained will contribute to cultivation by using methods of soil-less agriculture in the region and pave the way for similar scientific studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
