Abstract

Developments in information and communication technologies play a decisive role in our lifestyles. As a consequence of digital technologies, the traces of new media options that have multimedia content on social life and individual preferences have paved the way for radical changes in traditional media understanding. We can say that a more visual culture oriented media mentality has developed and this process that started with television has gained momentum with the new media. Because of its features such as interactivity, hypertextuality, accessibility from everywhere and user-derived content production, new media and usage practices, which have become indispensable in our lives, have become preferable for users who want to keep up with fast-flowing information. As a result of our changing communication and information acquisition methods in parallel with technological developments, monitoring processes of television have also been expanded and changed in this context. A different media consumption process has been developed especially by young generation and children users. In this context, considering the expanding usage of television channels in the new media, the TVs of TRT Çocuk, Baby TV and Disney Junior channels, which are broadcasting for children in different age groups, have been examined in many aspects and their effects on children's mental, spiritual, social and cognitive development especially in preschool period, in the context of positive and negative aspects are tried to put together.
