Abstract

The article discusses research regarding sexual predators and reasons why police fail to catch them. Topics include problems with the criminal justice system in which police tend to disbelieve women who say they've been raped and rape kits are stored without being tested, the tendency for the alleged assailant to go free without a conviction in 49 out of 50 rape cases of roughly 125,000 rapes reported annually in the U.S., and the tendency for police to dismiss reports of rape if they do not meet a specific profile.
