Abstract

This paper has as its main topic the construction of otherness/alterity through semantic and discursive strategies, which allow hiding discrimination and presenting oneself as being tolerant, inclusive and with an attitude of acceptance: what it is called "subtle prejuidice". The main objetive of this research is to analyse how discrimination is constructed and transmitted through a discourse apparently inclusive and politically correct, while it conceals the social negotiation of power and what is public and allowed or prohibited. The case study is the topic of discrimination and homofobia, in the context of the legislation approving same sex marriage in 2016. We used 120 semistructured interviews applied in Mexico City and the metropolitan area. The study locates itself in the thematic area of cultural politics, cultural studies and the linguistic turn.
