Abstract

The arrangement considered normal in humans and more frequent of arteries originating from the aortic arch is the left subclavian, left common carotid and brachiocephalic trunk. However, anatomical variations in the origin and trajectory of the aortic arch's blood vessels are frequently observed and documented in the literature. Thus, the aim of the study was to report two cases of anatomical variation observed in branches of the aortic arch in corpses. During the anatomical pieces' preparation for the practical classes in the laboratory of human anatomy of the University Center of Rio Preto (UNIRP), two cases of anatomical variation of the aortic arch's branches were found. We observed the presence of the left vertebral artery originating from the aortic arch and the left common carotid artery arising attached to the origin of the brachiocephalic trunk artery. These anatomical variations found in the aortic arch are important for clinical diagnoses and surgical treatments, since they reduce the risks of vascular diseases and injuries.
