Abstract
- The article focuses on an investigation which found that since 2010, 25 law enforcement agencies in 14 U.S. states destroyed rape kits in 400 cases before the DNA evidence is tested. Topics covered include how the criminal justice system has failed rape victims by disregarding sexual crimes as seriously as other violent crimes, the value of rape kits as evidence to a legal case, and the role of institutional bias and prejudice in the destruction of rape kits.
