Abstract
- The performances of Australian body artist Stelarc have been read as part of the shift in new media towards radical materiality that rejects the traditional self. Stelarc's art, instead, belongs in a philosophical tradition that affirms the proprioceptive self, one that can only know itself through touch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
