Abstract

Presents research which showed that [Na+]i regulates the function of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. Role of Na+ in the nervous system; Effects of increases in intracellular Na+ concentration; Increases in NMDA-receptor-mediated whole-cell currents and NMDA-receptor single-channel activity; Sensitivity of channels to Na+; Raising [Na+]i selectivity; Change in postsynaptic [Na+]i during neuronal activity.
