The article highlights the association of heart rate variability (HRV) with autonomic nervous system (ANS). Topics discussed include study on the ANS control of sinus node periodicity; long-term HRV that provide powerful risk prediction mainly in cardiac patients; and the function of ANS to maintain the homeostasis of organism.
