Abstract

The presence of arterial variants in patients scheduled for pancreatico-duodenectomy is not uncommon and should be preoperatively detected because it may influence the intraoperative strategy. Ligation of the gastro-duodenal artery is a critical step during pancreaticoduodenectomies. However, the impact of anatomical variants of gastro-duodenal artery was poorly investigated. Hereby, it is presented the case of a patient who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for distal bile duct cholangiocarcinoma and with anatomical variant of origin for gastro-duodenal artery from right hepatic artery. Proper recognition of arterial anatomy during pancreatico-duodenectomies is of utmost importance to avoid postoperative complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
