Abstract
- Using an international perspective, the objective of this study is to assess the return on investment of influenza corporate vaccination programs in various countries, industrial sectors and sizes of companies.Considering the employer perspective, a cost–benefit model has been designed in order to provide a probabilistic assessment of the costs and benefits of vaccinating healthy working adults. Costs of the vaccination alternative are thus compared with the benefits, i.e., avoided absenteeism and loss of productivity by preventing the diseases. Companies from Australia, Brazil, China, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey have been sampled. Their financial data have been collected through international consultants'' databases and epidemiological data were gathered through literature review and national sources, in order to provide an average cost–benefit result by country. Various sensitivity analyses have then been performed to evaluate the impact of key data variations on the final result. By discounting costs and benefits at a rate of 3%, the annual net cost-savings per employee vaccinated ranges from US$6 in Thailand to US$108 in Australia. In this study, assessing the medical and economic benefits of influenza corporate immunization programs, the vaccination coverage rate is clearly identified as one of the key criteria securing vaccination benefits.
