Abstract

Following the argument of a short story appeared in The Narnia Chronicles saga by C. S. Lewis, we discuss certain processes explained by two evolutionary theories which are highly unknown by biologists, despite the fact they have been created by two of the most distinguished authors of the Evolutionary Biology of the last century: Sewall Wright and Ernst Mayr. In the first case, we show the effect of inbreeding, gene drift and some extent of gene flow in the constitution of populations of domesticated animals. In the second one, we show the famous founder effect as a cause of speciation in small natural populations of animals living in geographic isolation. Afterwards, we analyze the resemblance between the two theories, even though they were proposed independently from each other. Finally, we entertain the plausibility that these theories could be used combined to explain the origins of the different groups which form the modern human species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
