Abstract

Introduction: There are several reports on the therapeutic effects of Curcuma longa in traditional medicine such as anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, hepatoprotective, and antioxidant effects. The present research investigated the analgesic effect of this plant compared to sodium salicylate. Materials and Methods: The methanol extract of Curcuma longa was prepared using the percolation method. Various doses of root extract (100, 200, and 300 mg/kg) and sodium salicylate (300 mg/kg) were injected intraperitoneally. The analgesic activity of these two materials was assessed using tail flick test for the acute pain and formalin test for chronic pain. Results: All doses of extract and sodium salicylate showed a significant analgesic effect compared to the control group in tail flick test and the second of phase the formalin test (P<0.05). Conclusion: It appears that Curcuma Longa induces its inhibitory effect on acute and chronic pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
