Abstract
- The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between sociodemographic variables and the cultural capital of Brazilian nuclear families with their expenditure on the consumption of cultural goods and services. The Consumer Expenditure Survey (2008/2009) conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was used as database. The sample consisted of 27,479 households that were selected based on the nuclear family structure with school-age children. Data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis and correlation coefficient. The results showed a positive relationship between income per capita, number of people in the family, cultural capital and age of the spouse/husband with the expenditure on cultural goods and services. According to the model, income per capita and cultural capital were the main explanatory variables of the expenses with cultural goods and services in the households. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
