Abstract

This research aims to identify some of the general characteristics of the agricultural extension agents, to determine the degree of professional compatibility of the agricultural extension agents and it's relative importance, to determine the relationship between the degree of professional compatibility of the agricultural extension agents and the following independent variables (age, monthly income, years of extension work, the number of training courses, the compatibility of the training courses with the needs of the work, the operating of the agents in the work on which they were trained, the adequacy of the number of employees, motivation for achievement, job satisfaction, and organizational pressures), to determine the relationship between the degree of performance of the agricultural extension agents concerned with their functional roles and the independent variables studied above and the professional compatibility (as an intermediate variable), to identify the most important factors for developing and improving the performance of the agricultural extension agents. To determine the best bath model of causal relationships between the impact of the independent variable on the professional compatibility to improve the performance of the agricultural agents. To study the problems faced by the agricultural extension agents in their work. This research was conducted in Sharkia Govemorate, the two largest districts were selected in terms of the number of villages in each district, namely Minya al-Qamh district and Zagazig district, respectively, and all the extension agents were selected in these two districts. The sample size was 150 respondents representing 31.7% of the total agricultural extension agents at the govemorate level which reached 473 agricultural agents. The data were collected from February to May 2018. The statistical analysis included frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, person correlation coefficient, professional compatibility criterion and path analysis. The most important results of this study are that approximately half of the respondents 48. 7% have a low degree of professional compatibility, and that there is a positive correlation at significant level 0.01 between the degree of compatibility and the number of training courses, the adequacy of the employees number, the motivation for achievement, and the functional satisfaction. The results showed that there is an inverse and significant correlation relationship at the level of 0.01 between the degree of professional compatibility of the agricultural extension agents and the orgainzational pressures. The results also showed that there was a significant correlation at level 0.05 between the degree of professional compatibility of the surveyed agricultural extension agents and the following independent variables: the experience of the employees, the compatibility of the training courses with the work needs. The results also showed that more than half of the respondents 54. 7% have medium functional performance the results indicated that there was a significant positive relationship at level 0.01 between the performance of the agricultural extension agents for their functional roles and the following independent variables: number of training courses, number of employees, motivation for achievement, job satisfaction, regulatory pressures, professional compliance. The results also showed the presence of positive and significant correlation at the level 0.05 between the degree of performance of agricultural extension agents for their functional roles and each of the following studied independent variables: suitable working experience, compatibility of training courses with the working needs.
