Abstract

Measles virus may cause several types of encephalitis, including primary measles encephalitis, acute post-measles encephalitis, measles inclusion body encephalitis, and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. On follow serological tests performed a week later, serum titers of anti-measles IgG increased more than 15 times from the baseline value (>300), whereas serum titers of anti-measles IgM became undetectable. We believe that the patient developed acute post-measles encephalitis, rather primary measles encephalitis, because of the temporal profile of serological tests, the development of encephalitis symptoms soon after resolution of measles symptoms, and a good response to corticosteroid therapy.
