Abstract

Carbon nanotube (CNT) foams have received an overwhelming response in research community due to their large strength to weight ratio. In this work, CNT foam was prepared using functionalized CNT. Pore size distribution in synthesized CNT foams was observed to be in the range 200-400 μm and porosity is in range 60-65%. The bulk density of foam is 0.2-0.3 g/cc. Furthermore, uniaxial compression tests at varying rates, indicates deformation behavior to be rate dependent. Cyclic compression test was also performed showing similar behavior to cellular materials; hysteresis loop is found in loading-unloading cycles, clearly indicating energy dissipation.
