Abstract

The article discusses Black respectability politics, Black feminism and musicians Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé. It comments on Minaj's music video "Stupid Hoe" released on January 20, 2012 in which she manipulates herself in racialized gendered ways including morphing into a distorted Barbie doll and a Raggedy Ann doll. It mentions Beyoncé revealing she was pregnant during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and discussions of pregnancy and Black female sexual representation.
