Abstract

This article is part of the first author's Thesis research under the guidance of the second author. It was motivated by the lack of studies on Jewish women in the light of gender theories and the interest in investigating the barriers they face throughout their lives. To obtain answers, individual narratives of life histories were collected through interviews, with three Jewish families from the south of Brazil and three Jewish families from Sydney, Australia totaling 18 women from three generations. As a result, we identified that when there is room to reflect and question the origin of traditions, there is greater empowerment of women as they can break imprisonments and rise to new and more satisfying spaces.
