Abstract
- This Viewpoint characterizes the evidence base underlying existing interventions to reduce complications and improve patient outcomes after surgery, and emphasizes the need for science to guide extension and development of new interventions in the face of pressures to use length-of-stay (LOS) as the primary measure of enhanced recovery and to use interventions shown effective for one population and setting to others.
