Abstract
- The article considers the geological origins of myths and legends related to giants such as the Welsh giant Brân known best for his accounts of crossing the Irish Sea in the 12th century text "Mabinogion," the origin stories of Crater Lake told by the Klamath Indians of Oregon, and stories about lower sea levels and the eruption of the Kinrara volcano told by Aboriginal Australians. The author points out that such stories originated more than 7000 years ago during an ice age when sea levels were significantly lower and environmental knowledge was passed through generations by storytelling.
