Abstract

Abstract A new one-dimensional coordination polymer, [Cu II (L) 2 ][Cu I (bpy)] 2 ·4H 2 O (BUC-20) (H 2 L = cis -1,3-dibenzyl-2-imidazolidone-4,5-dicarboxylic acid, bpy = 4,4-bipyridine), was synthesized solvothermal condition. The crystal structure of BUC-20 was analyzed, and its properties like band energy, water stability, and photocurrent were clarified. BUC-20 exhibited outstanding photocatalytic Cr(VI) performance upon the UV light irradiation under acid condition, which was superior to those of existing photocatalysts. The photocatalytic performance was not influenced by the presence of inorganic ions, which was affirmed by the introduction real surface water to prepare simulated wastewater. BUC-20 exhibited good water stability, and could be used several runs without significant efficiency decrease. Graphical abstract Image 1 Highlights • BUC-20 is a water stable 1D coordination polymer containing mixed-valence CuI/CuII. • BUC-20 displays excellent photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction under UV light irradiation. • The photocatalytic activity isn't effected by co-existing ions in real surface water. • BUC-20 can be used as efficient photocatalyst for several runs.
