Abstract
- The author comments on Mike Chibnik's essay on issues he encountered in getting his U.S.-published book "Crafting Traditions: The Making and Marketing of Oaxacan Wood Carvings" translated and published in Spanish in Mexico. Topics include the author's suggestion that the difficulty is due to ethnographic character of the text, the skill required in translating ethnographic text and an argument that the translation of the title does not exactly convey the meaning and intention of the original.
