Abstract

Engineer Francis Fox produced some of the best anecdotal accounts of engineering works in the 19th and early 20th centuries. His brother, Charles Douglas Fox was also his business partner, and as consulting engineers the two would tunnel, bridge and build their way around the world. Both were engaged on the construction of the Mersey Tunnel, the Liverpool Overhead Railway and elements of the London underground system.
