Abstract

The article presents an analysis of how Constable of Portugal, Pedro's remarks on poverty and wealth as played out in the poem "Coplas, and in conjunction with the material environment that surrounded him can help understand the complexity of Pedro's political stance when he was composing "Coplas." Topics include death of Álvaro de Luna, constable of Castile, Spain, King of Portugal Juan II's chief minister and closest friend for more than thirty years, who was executed by the king's command.
