The geographical discoveries and the new dimension of the spiritual and scientific knowledge led the 15th and 17th centuries to prefigure the huge historical jump taken by man and mankind. Human reason ever more unfettered from the chains of dogmas paved the way for creation founded on man's new relations with nature, with himself, his fellow creatures, and with God. It was believed, at one time, that liberated from dogmas, human reason would drive man to ruin. Goethe offers release from such anxiety, in the light of a German type of enlightenment, by placing man in the centre of the world, holding him responsible for the meaning granted to life. Free to distinguish between good and evil in the power of his own free will, Faustus touches the haven of joy and of hapiness revaluating the superior abilities of human being on his relation with life environment, in liberty, in join harmony with his creative capacity and with divinity as well. Leading, by his own effort and thinking, to the victory of light over darkness, „Faustus” sends a message to mankind the actuality of which fully relates to the realities of our times.
